They are not on my radar so don’t hold it against me. Some people see romance novels and say gimme more whereas everytime I see a romance novel, I pretend like I never saw it. Not knowing any books on this list feels criminal but everyone has different tastes. There are popular books on this list like The Notebook and books by popular authors such as Danielle Steel that I have heard of. As those aren’t really my cup of tea, it is no surprise I have not read a single book on this list. This list includes a lot of romantic novels, coming of age novels, and self-discovery books.

It takes you on a journey in the lives of these young characters from childhood to early adolescence. This is quite possibly one of the best fantasy books that you will ever read. This makes the reading gripping and intense throughout, but with a somehow very calming approach. There is this subtle tone of unease throughout the story, especially as the Tooth Fairy begins to ‘change’, and as a reader you are always poised for something dreadful to just suddenly happen out of nothing. Despite this unspoken rivalry, there is no animosity between the boys, as their friendship never falters. The arrival of Alice, a young girl from the nearby stables, mixes up the dynamics within the group as they secretly compete for her affection. This taunting ‘creature’ is a great portrayal of mischief and trickery, as well as desire and lust.

The story picks up quickly as Sam, the main character, starts to interact with the Tooth Fairy, which he starts seeing as the end of his bed. From there on, the novel takes you through the lives of these young boys, facing every day struggles and traumas. The book starts off with one of the boys, Terry, losing two of his toes to a Pike by carelessly dangling his foot into their nearby pond. Not the benign figure of childhood myth, but an enigmatic presence that both torments and seduces him, changing his life forever. Until the day Sam wakes to find the Tooth Fairy sitting on the edge of his bed. Daring adults to challenge their freedom. Roaming wild around the outskirts of their car-factory town. Sam and his friends are like any normal gang of young boys.
